Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd October 2019 at the Bridlington Spa.

Entries for the Humber Care Tech Challenge 2019 are now closed. thank you to everyone who entered!

The Humber Care Tech Challenge 2019 is an exciting opportunity for participants to develop yet to be imagined technology solutions to support people living with dementia and their carers.

On the first day of the challenge teams will focus on developing their concept and on the second day they will begin building their prototypes.

There will be plenty of people on hand to help teams to refine and develop their ideas, including technical experts from Amazon, Principal ICT Business Analysts from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and health and social care experts.

The winning team will receive support from mentors at Amazon, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the University of Hull to help turn their ideas into real products and make a difference in the Humber region and beyond. The winners will also take home the famous Humber Care Tech trophy!

Visioning Day

We held our Visioning Day at the University of Hull on Thursday 5th September 2019. The attendees filled in over 60 “idea cards” that set out challenges and ideas. These have been summarised and you can find the visioning day report here.

Who can participate?

Anyone over the age of 16 can enter. However, anyone under the age of 18 must have a mentor aged 18 or over supervising them them throughout the challenge. The competition is open to beginner or veteran developers, designers and entrepreneurs. Students and businesses are also welcome!

Don’t worry if you’re a beginner, there will be subject matter experts from care and technology backgrounds on hand to help you during the event.

Where is the event?

The event will be held in the popular Bridlington Spa, which stands proudly overlooking the beaches and harbour. The perfect environment to create some new ideas and have some fun along the way!

Great, count me in! How do I enter?

You can enter for FREE here.

How much do tickets cost?

This year you can enter the Humber Care Tech Challenge for free! We will provide your meals and refreshments as well as high performance WiFi, power, a bunch of great resources and a relaxed workspace so you can focus on creating new and interesting ideas!

How many people should there be per team?

There can be up to 5 people per team.

What if I don’t have a team?

No need to worry! Part of the fun of the event is the opportunity to meet new people. We will have some time at the beginning of the event to help match people up to form new teams.

Is there a prize?

Yes, of course! There will be prizes for the winning concept on Day 1 and for the best solution on Day 2.

The prizes will include support from mentors at Amazon, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the University of Hull to help turn the winning team’s concept into reality and take it to market. The winners will also take home the Humber Care Tech trophy! More details about the prizes will be announced in the run-up to the event.

As well as the winners’ prizes, each team will have the opportunity to meet industry experts, build their CVs, work with new technologies and learn new skills.

How will the judging work?

The judging process will be published soon.

If my team wins, how much help will we get to turn our idea into a real life solution that can be put to market?

A bespoke support package will be provided to the winning team consisting of a mentoring service led by Amazon Web Services (AWS), and supported by the University of Hull, the four regional NHS CCGs (Clinical Commissioning Groups), C4Di and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, that will enable feasible ideas to be turned into a real life solution that can be put to market.  Depending on the winning team’s circumstances, there may also be an opportunity to help the teams bid for external funding.

This will give the winning team an exciting, unique opportunity to work with AWS, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the University of Hull, C4Di and the NHS CCGs across the region.

Through the various relationships the organisations have, the winning team can be put into contact with investors and open doors to help take your ideas to the next level, turning the idea into a viable business solution.

How would procurement work if there are opportunities at the end of the competition?

The aim of this event is to find solutions to the problems presented. The mentoring service will be as committed as you are, working extremely hard to get these solutions to real life use, within the constraints of our working environment.

Do we have any kind of infrastructure in place to take an idea forward after the competition?

The winning team will be provided with credits from AWS to develop their solution further. The mentoring service will also provide further technical support.

The mentoring service may connect you with one of our partners to take your ideas forward. The aim is to build a workflow that can take these ideas and realise their full potential both for this and future events.

What are the timings?

Registration for the event is between 9am and 9:30am on Tuesday 1st October and the competition will kick off at 10am. The competition will finish around 6pm on Wednesday 2nd October after the final winner has been announced. A full schedule will be provided to participants in the run-up to the event.

Are there any terms and conditions?

The terms and conditions will be published soon.

What shall I bring?

Make sure you bring a laptop (not forgetting your chargers) and any other gadgets you might use for developing your concept. Other than that we’ve got you covered!
